In need of a change of scenery!
Ive been working in customer service since the day I turned sixteen. I have had the same job which is a waitress at Denny's for almost 5 years now.
Working in customer service everyday can be challenging, especially dealing with others food! I feel like I'm getting burnt out on waiting tables because people have grown to be more impatient and more needy. It could be me holding grudges on the way some customers treat me. I don't think people realize the attitudes they have towards me sometimes, which make my attitude just as bad as theirs. The longer I do this job, the harder it is for me to act really friendly to people that are completely rude to me. There are things that drive me totally crazy and other waiters/waitresses that work with me as well for example, not tipping your server when we have done a really good job and it makes us even more mad when the table were super friendly and talked to us like they enjoyed our service, or when they stand up at the door and put all their money in the toy claw machine. Servers do not make a normal 8 or 9 dollar an hour wage, its way lower then that, so we survive off of our tips.
Don't get me wrong. It isn't all bad. I have many customers that I love and enjoy seeing everyday and customers that are really friendly and patient. These people are what make my job easy and enjoyable. The more patient they are with me, the quicker I will do things for them compared to yelling and being impatient, I have started to take my time which I know is wrong but being rude will get you nowhere. I am really good at my job and I am a patient and happy person. I know I will always be in customer service, or at least working with others all of my life, which I'm okay with.
I can't wait to graduate from college and get a job where I know how much I'm going to make instead of going in and not knowing. A steady paycheck is something that I look forward to having.
Yeah. I feel your pain. Working in the same place for years kind of gets old. The things that you are able to tolerate in the beginning become very evident after a few years. I know this because I have been at a daycare for 6 years in may. I started when I was 14 and I am now 20. Not only do I have to deal with the children, but the workers also. It can be stressful and there are so many rewards in working with children. Hang in there until you finish college, if ya can. You could always go waitress somewhere else..
ReplyDeleteI plan on staying here. I'm very comfortable where I'm at for right now but there will be things at any other waitressing job just like the one I'm in now. I'm just learning to laugh it, most days. lol
ReplyDeleteIt is isn't easy when you work a service job. Some customers like to take advantage of the fact that have to be nice to them.
